AgriZeroNZ has invested NZ $1.69 million (AU $1.5 million) in the agri-biotech company Nbryo to support the development of its reproductive technologies in New Zealand. This investment is AgriZeroNZ’s tenth equity investment aimed at providing Kiwi farmers with affordable and effective emissions reduction tools.

Nbryo, based in Queensland, has developed a platform that enables scalable production and transfer of high-quality embryos, allowing farmers to breed more emissions-efficient livestock faster. The company’s in vitro fertilisation (IVF) platform removes guesswork in mating by selecting the best genetics for breeding in the lab, which can accelerate improvements in traits like productivity, fertility and lower methane emissions.

While similar technologies exist, Nbryo aims to make embryo transfers accessible and affordable for everyday farmers, with comparable costs and conception rates to artificial insemination (AI). AgriZeroNZ sees Nbryo’s technology as a powerful tool to help spread low methane genetics quickly and cost-effectively across New Zealand’s dairy and beef farms.

AgriZeroNZ’s investment, co-leading the funding round, lays the foundation for Nbryo’s market entry in New Zealand. As part of its strategy, Nbryo will engage directly with Kiwi farmers to refine its approach. The technology is expected to offer farmers a range of breeding options by 2030.
