The El Niño building in the Pacific is tracking to be the strongest in 150 years, Blue Sky Weather meteorologist Tony Trewinnard says.

He says it now sits in the same league as the 1877 event, with models predicting a similar peak. Trewinnard says confidence is lifted because it is already on track and the forecasting season is traditionally accurate.

“I’ve called it the Windy El Niño because that is the signature that’s coming through,” he says.
