Value of advisory boards versus management in broadening discussions
An informal advisory board can achieve as much as a formal one, says Richard Green, an agribusiness director who holds eight advisory board seats.
What he values most is not the boardroom hours.
“It’s actually the thinking I do before the board meeting, and it’s the reporting I do to the board,” he says.
He keeps the cadence to quarterly, reserving it for strategy, risk and succession, and questions systems holding frequent meetings.
“You hear of six weekly advisory boards. To me, they’re talking about day-to-day management stuff.”
