A medium-sized dairy farm could save more than $20,000 a year by purchasing through its co-operative’s partner network rather than direct, says Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme alumna Jacqui Hawtin.

Her research, The Endless Aisle, examined five procurement categories including fuel, technology and vehicles.

“That goes straight to the bottom line, because it’s savings you’re already spending,” she says.

She says co-operatives can extend collective buying power well beyond traditional farm inputs.
