New Zealand’s ploughing team competed at the world championships in Croatia on borrowed gear after their tractors missed the shipping deadline.

Mark Dillon says the shipping company refused to refund the freight before relenting.

“We needed to get some traction somehow, and the media coming on board is exactly what we needed,” he says.

The Welsh team lent gear, hosting five days of practice before it travelled 2500km to Croatia. Dillon finished 14th in the conventional plough, with Malcolm Taylor 15th in the reversible.

“To finish 14th with borrowed gear and tough conditions is something not to be sneezed at.”
