New Zealand-made app Stock Score puts body condition scoring data into farmers’ hands as they work the yards, developed by Central Otago veterinarian, farmer and agri-entrepreneur Becks Smith.

She says even though the app is new, the science of body condition scoring is not.

“What I’m trying to do is actually just make that data capture easier, and actually get the uptake of the science that we already know,” she says.

The app works offline and one-handed, capturing scores and giving mob-level insights as farmers record.

“It’s got big buttons and big numbers for clumsy fingers like mine.”

It lets farmers compare a mob against previous recordings to track trends and distribution curves. Sheep, beef, and deer farmers can see body condition score affecting productivity, profitability, animal health and pasture utilisation.
