MPI On Farm Support scholarships aim to grow farm advisors
The Ministry for Primary Industries is offering six $5,000 scholarships to tertiary students heading into farm advisory and extension roles. Director of On Farm support Chad Hoggard says they are working to build the pipeline of rural professionals.
“We’re looking for people who want to be on the ground helping farmers and bolstering the numbers,” he says.
The scholarship, now in its fourth year, targets students in agricultural science degrees across the primary sector, from dry stock and dairy to horticulture, arable and forestry. Of 18 scholarships awarded over the previous three years, six recipients are now working in advisory roles.
He says the on-farm support team also mentors recipients.
Applications are open now to eligible students at selected institutions. Find out more here.
