A new digital quota management system replaces a platform first implemented about 20 years ago.

Esther Guy-Meakin, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Meat Board, says the board issues about 18,000 certificates a year across the UK, EU and US quota markets.

She says quotas valued at about $4.2 billion were administered last year, saving $1.4 billion in tariffs.

She says allocation is based on production history and quota holders pay for access.
