Marlborough vineyard values have fallen to as low as $100,000 a hectare on land once worth about $300,000, says Bailey’s Marlborough franchise director Glenn Dick.

Wine consumption is falling worldwide because younger generations drink less.

“We just maybe went a bit hard there and made a bit of an oversupply on the bulk side of it,” he says.

Grape prices have fallen from $2,000 a ton to about $1,400, with wine companies cutting yield caps.

“If you are a buyer, it’s a good opportunity to buy.”
