2025 Nuffield Scholar Lisa Portas says strong wool is shifting from volatile auctions to direct contracts, and growers should get closer to where their clip goes.

She says high-profile brands are buying farms and want to deal closer to the farm gate, bringing two or three-year contracts.

“They will double down on where they’re getting it from and want way more certainty about it,” she says.

She says growers should know the data and environmental credentials on their farm and have it ready for the people selling their product.
