Global Agri Trends’ Simon Quilty says New Zealand beef and lamb prices will keep rising as global supply tightens.

“There is not enough meat in the world to meet everyone’s needs,” he says.

He says lamb sits at about $11.50 today, and he expects it to reach $12.50 in August.

Australia and Brazil are about to hit safeguard duties of 55% and 67%, and shipments into China will stop.

“New Zealand effectively almost has the market to itself.”

He says weight-loss drugs are lifting protein demand in the United States.
