New Zealand has no commercial growers currently supplying calla lilies to the wholesale flower market, despite strong demand, a flower industry broker says.

Lissie Johns, founder of Provenance Brokers, says the country previously had several commercial calla lily growers supplying an export industry.

“We actually have no commercial calla lily growers supplying directly to the market at the moment,” she says.

White and green flowers remain popular with brides, alongside lisianthus and greens such as amaranthus. Peonies remain strong, particularly grown in the South Island, with a large share exported to the American market.
