Diesel has about doubled in the space of a month, a serious shock for farming, says BNZ Senior Economist Doug Steel.

He says the biggest risk is fuel supply becoming rationed, with the International Energy Agency calling it the largest energy supply shock in history.

New Zealand holds 55 days of diesel, but only 22 days sit in the country.

“In terms of what you can do on farm, there is not a heck of a lot,” he says.
