Farmers who have lost mobile coverage since the 3G switch-off are being asked to report the gaps so they can be put to the next communications minister.

TUANZ chief executive Craig Young says Telcos told the Association the remaining 4G and 5G networks would provide the same level of service.

“It appears that in actual fact this has not been the case, that there are still gaps in coverage,” he says.

Young says the Government has treated Starlink as the answer to rural connectivity.

“It isn’t owned by New Zealanders; it’s managed by an American company, and it is constrained in the service that it offers.”

He says rural users also pay 29% more than urban users for a similar service.
