Applications are open for DairyNZ’s Māori internship programme, entering its sixth year this November.
Māori development advisor Pounamu Anaru says the internship now spans science, projects and policy.
“The key focus this year is around building a range of experiences for the students that we bring on board,” he says.
The programme runs from late November to March, taking on two interns with more placed across the wider organisation.
He says the internship brings mātauranga Māori alongside Western science to help shape farming and policy.
“If we overlay some of that Mātauranga Māori with Western science, as well as the technologies that are emerging, we create quite a deadly combo to achieve pasture resilience,” he says.
Interns spend time on farm and at a wānanga with peers from partner organisations, presenting their findings.
