AgriZeroNZ has added Alliance Group and Farmlands as shareholders in a second funding round worth $117 million.

Rob Hewett, board chair of AgriZeroNZ, says half the new money comes from the Crown, with much of it earmarked for follow-on investment in existing ventures.

“We expect by 2030 to have half a dozen products, five, six products available for farmers to go and choose,” he says.

The first product, a methane-inhibiting bolus from Ruminant Biotech, is expected early next year.

Hewett says exporters are expected to deliver a market premium for lower-emissions product, but farmers also need a productivity gain.

“Ultimately premiums get commoditised over time, so we want the productivity.”
