A Rangitikei local found himself in a convoy of stock trucks on the main highway from Whanganui after passing through Whangaehu.

Before long the car was covered in excrement. Whatever happened to effluent retention tanks, he asked? At least he wasn’t traveling much further, as it was still fluid enough to wash off.

The stock truck company manager commented all its stock units have effluent tanks on their trucks and trailers.

“The unfortunate thing is that when they are full, the cows do not stop urinating causing them to overflow. I would like to say we could pull over and empty them in a conveniently placed effluent dump but … the first stop where the trucks can empty their tanks is Wellington. I would also like to say the farmer would stand them to empty out for four-six hours but…”

“Apologies for your car being covered in shit, my best advice would be don’t follow so close, and hope you’re not going to Wellington.”

He added later: “More effluent dumps would be ideal as this is a poor look for our company, but without farmers standing their stock and not a lot of dumps available it is nearly out of our control.”

A case for regional councils to get their effluent together?
