WorkSafe’s advice as inspectors head onto sheep and beef farms

WorkSafe will phone or door-knock sheep and beef farmers to book a time before inspectors visit from October to December this year.
General Inspectorate Manager for WorkSafe, Carl Baker, says the campaign covers vehicles, remote and isolated work and hazardous substances.
He says safety data sheets and a chemical inventory come first.
“If emergency services had to turn up to that farm, you can provide that inventory to them so they know if they walked into that shed, what kind of things they could be confronted with.”
Baker says inspectors provide education and guidance material during visits.
“What we’re not going to tell the farmer is how to run their farm because they know the uniqueness of their farms and the risk associated with their farms.”
