Wool prices are holding at elevated levels while the volumes coming forward stay short.

PGG Wrightson national wool auction manager Dave Burridge says the market is levelling off.

“We were 25% below rostered volume for our sale last week,” he says.

He says most ewes have been shorn and mainly hogget wools are coming forward, with the fine wool season nearing its tail end. Returns to wool growers across all wool types are holding up well.

He says Australian buyers are the dominant force in the sale room, mainly for fine wool. They return for next Thursday’s sale, which starts at 8am.

He says North Island wool flows over the next four to six weeks may put extra pressure on the market, but there is enough inquiry to absorb them.
