Forestry buyers are steering clear of the Gisborne region and buying elsewhere in the country, says Simon Bousfield, owner and manager of Bayleys Gisborne.

“It was more the local councils, how they were viewing consents and applying consents to forestry land conversion has made it really difficult for any forestry buyers,” he says.

He says farmers are stepping in.

“There’s even mature forestry lots being harvested and being purchased to revert to pasture.

“So at both ends of the pine tree lifespan, there’s reversion back to pasture.”
