Flat and bare land is in strong demand across the Wairarapa, setting the region up for a busy spring. Bayleys Wairarapa country lifestyle and farm sales specialist Andrew Smith says bare dryland has jumped in value within a year.

“We were selling land last year for early $40,000’s, and now we’re in the high $40,000’s on a per hectare for bare land, dryland country,” Smith says.

He says demand now comes from dairy, sheep and beef and cropping buyers alike, and banks are keen to lend. Stronger returns have reopened succession talks, with the election set to push a late run into Christmas.
