Rural voices must not be drowned out in reform
Rural communities must not lose the work of regional councils under the local government reforms, says Sandra Faulkner, Federated Farmers local government spokesperson.
She says the shift goes far beyond amalgamation, with the deadline for councils falling on Sunday.
“We can’t walk away from the functions of regional councils,” she says.
She says metro counterparts may not understand what those councils do for farming communities.
