An off-grid property with views the length of the Wairarapa is going to tender through Bayleys.

Moonlight Peak has operated as a Canopy Camping Escapes rental for six years, says Jamie Taplin, rural real estate agent at Bayleys.

“I don’t think I’ve seen the sort of occupancy in many other properties that could compete with Moonlight.”

The property runs on solar power with gas hot water and hobs. A wood-fired hot tub sits out front, the main living space opens fully to the view, and the other side of the building looks back toward Mount Holdsworth and into the bush.

“The view is just something to die for from one end of the Wairarapa to the other, you’re looking straight out over Carterton, over towards the eastern hills, up over Masterton.”

The rental model is built around isolation, Taplin says.

“I know for a lot of us it’s that ability to switch off, and a lot of us miss out on that. 

“At Moonlight, you’re dropped off, you can’t go anywhere, which I think is a massive appeal for a lot of people.”

The property sits on just under 37 hectares in three titles, with the grazing block leased to a neighbouring farmer on terms that can continue. An all-weather stone track connects the site to Carterton, which is about 10 minutes away. “I love taking people there to view it, it’s certainly a place you really need to come and see.”
