NZ First 'keen' on cowshed solar, not individual houses
New Zealand First supports solar on marae, council buildings, and large commercial rooftops but not individual homes, Associate Minister of Energy Shane Jones said on CountryWide Connect.
Jones said the party was “not keen on individual houses” because of fears of “middle class capture.”
“We’re not keen on individual houses, because we fear middle class capture.”
He added that while solar had a role on public and community buildings, he was “more keen on geothermal energy and expanding it.”
Jones also called for the number of gentailers to be “cut in half,” backing Winston Peters statements in his State of the Nations speech, saying the integrated generator-retailers needed to be broken up to bring power prices down.
