AIMER is launching a pasture measurement system that fuses satellite data, smartphone measurement and a live farm model, giving farmers an automated option not previously available to all clients.

Jeremy Bryant, founder of AIMER, says the company’s smartphone tool already measures pasture through a partial farm walk, and the new system takes that further.

“It’s really solving that problem of accurate pasture measurement,” he says.

The satellite is the piece that makes regular, hands-off measurement possible.

“The smartphone’s great because you can get that high level of accuracy, but the satellite provides that really automated solution of going over regularly.”

Because a satellite cannot match the smartphone for accuracy, AIMER blends the feeds.

“What we’ve tried to do is combine the different data sources, being the satellite, the smartphone, and our live farm model that learns between the paddocks to get that accuracy so that farmers always have an estimate for the paddock, no matter what the conditions.”

The system delivers those estimates without farmers logging grazing events.

“We didn’t want it to be a requirement, which some of the other products do to get that level of accuracy.”

He does not see it replacing the farm walk.

“We see it as augmenting the farm walk.”

Periodic smartphone measuring stays valuable, he says, because they don’t want to lose the human element.
