National river gravel extraction standard slated for next government term
National says they will develop National Standards for river and on farm gravel extraction as part of RMA reforms if re-elected. Associate Minister of Agriculture Mike Butterick says it will not arrive before the election but sits in their next-term policy plans.
“Metal just keeps moving down our rivers, and if you don’t manage it, you end up damaging infrastructure beside it,” he says.
The standard will apply the same rule throughout the country.
