Productivity drove about 60% of Pāmu’s gain this year as profit tipped over $113 million. Chief Executive Mark Leslie says livestock and dairy units are 15% to 20% ahead on production in the last three years, with protein prices adding a tailwind.

He says Pāmu has paid down $36 million of debt and returned a record dividend to the Crown. Dairy cost of production averaged $706 last year, with conventional at $699 and organics at $751.

“Given who we’re owned by, which is all of us as New Zealanders, we’ve got to be quite transparent around that data.”
