Free Environment Canterbury consent drop-ins start 16 November
Proposed Plan Change 5 and changes to water rules could affect some Canterbury farm consent applications.

Environment Canterbury is running free drop-in sessions from 16 November for farmers with questions about consents and law changes.
Environment Canterbury principal consents planner Victoria Kingsbury says affected consents have been extended to 2027 and could be extended further, possibly to 2030.
“Basically farmers can just drop in, have a chat, find out what they need to do, get some clarity,” she says.
She says farmers changing their system may keep their existing consent or need a new one.
Kingsbury says a new dairy conversion needs a dairy effluent discharge consent, though an irrigation scheme may hold a nutrient consent that covers the farm.
She says proposed Plan Change 5 and proposed water rule changes could also affect some applications.
“We just currently have to work in the current framework.”
