Public consultation is open until 29 September on a new group standard that would treat imported and New Zealand-treated seed consistently, Seed and Grain New Zealand vice president Jo Townshend says.

The standard follows a 2022 report identifying a data gap on imported treated seed, after two years of stakeholder work with the EPA.

“It’s really important for people to understand the importance of having access to treated seed,” she says.

She is urging affected growers to submit.
