Consultation targets four changes to organic regulations
Organic producers have until 22 September to submit on regulatory changes covering four areas, including the levy exemption threshold, currently $10,000, and a proposed national organic logo.
Associate Minister of Agriculture Mike Butterick says the sector is broadly supportive of the consultation.
New Zealand’s $1.18 billion organic sector exports more than $606 million a year.
“It’s about assuring the customer that when you rock on up to buy something, and it says it’s organic, that it actually is organic,” he says.
Regulations come into force at the end of March next year.
