PGG Wrightson Seeds Arable and Multiplication Specialist Sean Mulligan has been named Agronomist of the Year at the 2026 Arable Industry Awards in Christchurch.

“It was a bit of a surprise, and I’m very humbled and honoured to be the recipient of a very prestigious award,” he says.

Mulligan grew up on a cropping farm and studied a BCom Ag at Lincoln University before a family connection drew him into agronomy.

“For me, just being out on farms turns it into a lifestyle, not a job.”

He says the role is about understanding how growers tick and tailoring a plan to their goals.

“I think that’s what I enjoy doing, being out on farm and not trying to sell the growers something, but trying to add value to their business.”
