AgriZeroNZ has invested just over $100 million in tools to cut methane and nitrous oxide from pasture-based farming.
Chief executive Wayne McNee says the partnership, which started in February 2023, has backed more than 21 ventures, grants and research projects. “We’re focused on pasture obviously with the New Zealand system,” he says.
A ruminant vaccine from Boston-based ArkeaBio, which aims to cut emissions by about 15%, is in dairy trials in Waikato, with an application to the Ministry for Primary Industries planned next year.
The Government has added $51 million over three years of matched funding for farmers who adopt proven tools.
