Loua Ward, National Manager Pacific at Immigration New Zealand, says changes to the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme will let workers move between accredited employers more quickly to respond to weather and work demands.

The RSE scheme allows up to 20,750 workers a year, with just under 18,000 coming on average over the past four years.

“The scheme is critical for New Zealand’s horticulture and viticulture industries,” she says.

She says workers keep living costs low to send money home for education, stronger housing and businesses. Employers provide checked accommodation and pastoral care.

“It’s a real success story for New Zealand.”
