A fourth rural health training hub is being set up in Northland.
Associate Minister of Health Matt Doocey says the hubs are a framework for local people to train and for health students to be placed in local areas. “We do know when people are stuck on wait lists and especially in remote rural and regional New Zealand for health wait lists quite often the reason for that is too many workforce vacancies,” he says.
Each hub has four parts: placements, pathways, pastoral support and a programme lead. The Northland lead will be employed to cover the whole region.
He says the Government has committed $164 million to roll out after-hours health care in 70 rural areas.
