Lucie Douma, Head of Client Propositions & Loss Prevention at FMG, recently spent two weeks travelling Ireland and engaging with their farming systems and values, and brings her insights to the show.
She says an example of this is that value flows back to Irish dairy farmers because seven of the country’s 12 dairy co-operatives own Kerrygold.
“They have really looked at that one whole connected system, and it’s something that we could learn more from in New Zealand,” she says.
Douma says the average Irish farm is 34.5ha against 260ha in New Zealand; most do not make a living wage and two in five properties have no succession plan.
