Record spending failing to slow surging pest numbers
Rural pest numbers are spiralling despite record farmer spending, costing the productive sector $466 million a year. Federated Farmers national conservation spokesperson Simon Cameron says two-thirds of farmers report the problem is worsening.
He says a national pest strategy is needed, bringing conservation groups, hunters and farmers together.
“We can sit round and argue about it all day and do nothing and let it get worse, or we can actually start doing something.”
